In alphabetical order:
Erland Cooper - A Nightingale Sings Outside
Having already released an album this year, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Erland Cooper shows no signs of stopping. Compiling a team of fellow musicians to collaborate on “A Nightingale Sings Outside”, the track is a stunning cacophony of strings and minimal piano.
Great Ezcape - Marga
With a chilling vocal sample underpinned by the rigid beat, Great Ezcape’s new single “Marga” is a hypnotic listen.
John Rush - Sister
Kicking off with a wailing harmonica, the new single from John Rush absolutely oozes with soul. Combining his standard folk-pop stylings with a bluesy rawness makes for an enthralling listen.
The Kundalini Genie - Too Early, Too Late
Experimental psych-rock outfit The Kundalini Genie manage to create a sun scorched world in this latest single. “Too Early, Too Late” is a hazy collection of acoustic guitars accompanied in the beginning but by the end, the howl and force created by the band is unstoppable.
L'ECHO DE L'ETANG - I Was A Fool
Behind L'ECHO DE L'ETANG is Phoene Somsavath, a French musican based in Glasgow. With her layered lo-fi guitars, haunting gibberish singing drowned in reverb, she suggests a universe opening up a field of possibilities for interpretation, where abstraction can exist.
Maarya - Stick Like Glue
Creating a warm embrace of jazz guitar, a tight rhythm section and incomparable vocal melodies, “Stick Like Glue” is deserving of the highest honour. Scottish/Scandanavian singer Maarya’s latest single is a sublime piece of music that needs to be heard.
Misty Galactic - The Worst
Smoky piano melodies wind their way around a murmuring drum machine on the latest effort from electro pop artist Misty Galactic. Based on the East Coast of Scotland, the artist creates a subtle but encapsulating atmosphere throughout “The Worst”.
Ransom Fa - Only Fans
With two full length under his belt along with a run of singles, Ransom Fa has spent his time carving his sound into venues across the country. Keeping the instrumental spares but effective Ransom pulls the attention to the powerful vocal performance.
Scarlett Randle - Lately
Having been on the rise since her debut in 2018, Glasgow based singer/songwriter Scarlett Randle has been delivering a unique brand of pop. In this single, “Lately” is a stunning punch of glittery synths steeped in lyrical nostalgia. Performed in such a way the first half of the track ebbs and flows like a Phoebe Bridgers track while the latter half flourishes into Neon Indian-esque instrumental.
Tomorrow Syndicate - Populus
Coming as a part of a limited edition 7” single, “Populus” is the latest look in the world of Tomorrow Syndicate. Propelled by the throbbing bass synth “Populus” is yet another stroke of indie-dance goodness from the band.
